When embarking on a website design project, most people know they need an ‘About Us page’, but by the looks of things, few people know what the purpose of it is. Browsing through About Us pages in your industry will show you that there is still a lot of uncertainty about what type of content should be on this page.
Instead of copying and pasting your mission statement or having unfocused sub-category pages of team members talking about their diplomas and hobbies, here are a few guidelines to follow to make sure your About Us page is effective and converts readers to customers:
All of your product and service pages should be relevant to each specific product and service. The About Us page is where you can tell your story. It is the page that people click on when they need to know or want to verify the following information:
- Whether your company is legit,
- What your history is, and
- What your business is all about.
-
Get Your Tone Right
Are you a team of sharp lawyers, quirky creatives, or prudent financial advisers? Make sure the tone of the copy of your About Us page aligns with your corporate culture and the image you want to portray about your business. Regardless of how professional or fun you want to sound, make sure it is clear that you are passionate about what you do.
-
Only Tell the Story of Team Members if it Adds Value
Sometimes it is a good idea to give people a photo and a write-up of the people they will be working with at your company, but it is not a must-have for an About Us page. A lawyer, for example, may want to showcase his or her qualifications and career history to give the firm more credibility. If it makes sense for your business, audience and website, you could consider a team photo of your staff on your About Us page instead of individual write-ups on each team member, for example.

Tons of things that you do, don’t directly affect your Google rankings. Our Search Engine Optimisation experts list a few things that don’t affect your search results:
Does Google care if your website was registered in 2008 or 2018? No. If you started a website many years ago and you worked on building up authority and social signals, then there’s a good chance that your site will still rank well today. But, if you didn’t have an authoritative site in 2008 then it won’t give you an advantage over your competitors now.
- Whether You Do Or Don’t Use Google’s Apps And Services
You don’t have to use Gmail, Google Docs, AdSense or Google Analytics to get your website to rank well in Google. The engineers who work on those products and the engineers who work on search wouldn’t be happy knowing that the products are so closely linked as it would be unethical for Google to do this.
If you have a Facebook share counter on a page that shows that the page has been shared 7 000 times, it will show website visitors that the page is popular, but it won’t affect the page’s results in Google. Indirectly, it could signal that your content is good, but buying Facebook shares won’t put you ahead of your competition.

According to most email marketing experts, interactive emails are the next big thing. So, what is interactive email?
An interactive email is one that has functionality for the user to take some sort of action within that email. The action that is taken will then trigger some type of event within that email. This could, for example, be:
- A drop-down menu,
- A navigation tool, or
- A photo carousel.
This is a great evolution from traditional emails. In terms of interactivity, emails have lagged behind other platforms, but new ways of boosting interactivity mean that brands can now offer their customers more immersive experiences with interactive emails.
Over the past year, we’ve seen some great examples of interactive emails, including a ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ game directly in the email, a playable version of ‘Minesweeper’, and even live Twitter feeds directly in an email. Clearly, there’s a lot of room for creativity with interactive emails.
In a day and age where everyone is being marketed to in the same way, an interactive email campaign can help companies differentiate themselves in the marketplace. Instead of sending out the same old static type of content, you can create something that’s truly memorable. The best part is that not many brands are sending out interactive emails, so there is still a lot of room for early adopters to get on board and incorporate this digital marketing tactic into their strategies.
One of the problems that many people face when launching an interactive email campaign is the development work involved with getting the mails to work on different email clients. If you need help with your email marketing campaigns and designs, then get in touch with WSI OMS today.

Do you have to spend as much time working on internal brand culture as you would on social media marketing?
By now, most brands know that they need an online presence and a social media following. Many companies, however, aren’t dedicating enough time to their internal marketing and brand culture.
To determine whether this should be a priority for your business, ask yourself what kind of company you are going to be. Are you going to stay in the old model of mass broadcast, one-way marketing where it’s all about command, control and compliance? Or are you going to focus on inspiring and involving your key stakeholders and employees?
To be that way, you have to transform the culture of your company and your people to think that way. Instead of talking ‘at’ customers, you want your employees to be engaged with customers. It would be impossible to achieve this goal if you aren’t focused on engaging your employees in a similar way.
The golden rule is to treat your employees the same way that you would treat your customers. As the social media generation grows up and joins the workforce, they will continue to demand this type of engagement with employers.
The first step you can take to achieve this is by involving all levels of employees in your digital marketing campaigns. Ask for ideas and get people from various parts of the business to contribute to all types of content. Not only will employees be more inclined to share your content on their networks, but they will have a vested interest in the content that you are publishing.

Search Engine Optimization is a broad and ever-evolving field. With Google routinely updating their search algorithms, and every second digital agency punting new ways to increase your rankings in search engine results, it’s not hard to see why some people find SEO to be a daunting task.
If you want a clear-cut way to get better results on search engines, then focus your SEO campaign on these key areas:
- Competitor Analysis
Your first step is to know what your competition is doing in the market. Research their websites and their SEO strategies to determine:
- Which keywords they are targeting,
- How much content they are creating,
- How they rank in Google, and
- Whether they are spending money on PPC or not.
- Website Content
The content on your website has to be original, relevant and high quality. Make sure your content is a good source of information for website visitors and that it’s better than what the competition is doing.
- Keyword Research
Use Google’s AdWords tool to narrow down the number of keyword phrases that you will be targeting. These keywords should be included in your website content as well as in the Meta titles, the Meta descriptions, and the image alt tags.
- Internal Linking
To increase the ‘stickiness’ of your website and help Google’s website crawlers establish what your site is about, you need an internal linking strategy where relevant keywords will hyperlink to associated pages on the site.
- External Linking
You need quality inbound links to your website. Blog posts, guest blogs, article submissions and link exchanges are all strategies to explore to increase the number of external links on your site and boost your SEO rankings.
