If you’re not incorporating a chatbot into your website design, then you are already behind. The age of robots is now and the more people interact with them, the more they will realise the value of humanless interaction.
What exactly is a ‘bot’?
A bot is a computer program that automatically automates certain tasks, typically by chatting with a human through an interface. Bots plug into messaging and networking apps, and can play into larger strategies of tracking trends and consumer behaviour.
People shop and buy in a world of immediacy. Messaging is how they communicate. Having an app simply doesn’t cut it anymore because half of smartphone users download a whopping 0 apps per month.
Chatbots don’t require app downloads and people don’t have to pick up their phone to talk to an ill-informed service rep. By chatting in a familiar conversational interface, bots know they need to solve a problem and do nothing more or nothing less.
When chatbots are linked with a CRM, they get even smarter by leveraging past conversations to personalise their responses to a person’s unique situation and preferences. At a time where app usage and email efficacy are decreasing, chatbots offer businesses the opportunity to have one-to-one conversations at scale and customers a better way to interact with brands.

Doesn’t it seem like Christmas and Black Friday is so far off? Luckily, digital marketers and business owners can take advantage of “Christmas in July”, which is a mid-year shopping frenzy that consumers are expecting.
Whether you run an ecommerce website or you are selling a service, you need to make sure that your company is just as ready for Christmas in July this year:
Know who’s buying
South Africa’s ecommerce market is advanced and people are increasingly shopping online. Know who your customers are and how they will be searching for the products and services you have to offer. Make sure your website is responsive and mobile friendly so that people who are looking for Christmas in July sales can easily browse your website from any device they are using.
Plan your content marketing
How are people going to know what type of sales you are offering if you’re not writing and talking about it? Create a “Christmas in July” tab on your website listing all the products that will be on sale during July. Create blog posts, video clips, social media marketing posts and Instagram pictures of your sale so that you can make sure your message travels as far as possible.
Doublecheck your inventory and distribution channels
You need to prepare your business for the influx of orders and shipments. Make sure you have enough stock for all of the products that will be on promotion and make sure you are able to deliver the products to your customers within a short period of time.

If you want to get better at writing, then you’re supposed to be writing every day. There are many other tricks but ultimately practice is what makes perfect. The same is true for content marketing.
Forbes estimates that only about 10% of any website’s content generates 90% of the traffic and less than 1% of the content is responsible for half of all the website’s visitors. So what’s the point of producing all the excess content on your website?
- First, you’re not going to know which news articles or blog posts produce the most traffic until enough time has passed. After about a month, you will probably be able to say which content was the most interesting to your readers.
- Second, you need to figure out what your criteria for ‘good content’ are. If all you care about is traffic, then you may only have to track page visitors on your Google Analytics. You may also want to check which pieces of content get the most social shares. You may not be writing the next extraordinary viral story, but it’s possible that some of your posts get a lot of views and shares on Facebook. Social shares should give you plenty of information about what you’re doing right.
- Finally, consider adding some kind of conversion metric to your content. You should know which type of content you produce is the most engaging, however, ultimately you should be producing more of the content that leads to your actual business goals.

When you think of conversions, you’re often drawn to thinking about pay-per-click ads, banners and bright red calls to action. Your target audience, however, is tired of being ‘sold to’, which is why you have to look at different ways to create content that will lead to sales. Here are a few types of content that are great for boosting conversions:
How many questions could a potential customer have for your product? What type of advice would they be looking for online before they find your product? This is the type of information that you should be turning into blog posts. Instead of focusing on hard selling from the intro paragraph, you can provide helpful information and include links to your product pages within the post.
Did you know that YouTube is the second largest search engine? People don’t only search for music videos and Ted Talks on YouTube – they use it to find product reviews and information that they want to consume in video format.
If you are giving a presentation, elevator pitch or showing someone how to use your product on a regular basis, then consider filming this and uploading it to YouTube. This gives people the freedom and flexibility to watch your video when they want and to learn more about what you have to offer.
Quizzes need to be entertaining to be successful. Quizzes have become an intriguing way to engage with your target audience. Not only can you use this to gather more information about your potential customers, but you can also encourage them to follow you on social media, sign up for your newsletter or click through to relevant pages on your site at the end of the quiz.

Did you know that it only takes a website visitor 0,05 seconds to make a snap judgement of the website? Furthermore, 94% of all the website’s first impressions are design related.
You may have underestimated the power of graphic design and website design when compared to the impact that the content on your site has on a visitor. If you suspect that your web design isn’t yielding the results you need, keep these tips in mind:
- Be committed
Commitment to your brand’s style guide is key. Switching up fonts and colours on your site all the time is not a good idea. Consistency builds credibility and recognition amongst your audience. If you ever have the urge to pursue a little more flair, rather look at how you can switch up in-store marketing initiatives.
- Make Sure Your Site Is Idiot Proof
Forget everything you know about your brand, business and website and try to start learning from your website. Are your subheadings bold enough? Do your calls-to-action get lost in the content and design? Is there a clear flow of information on your pages? Ask others for their input as well. Design should be crystal clear, no questions asked.
- Turn Some Heads
Stop your website visitors’ cursors right in their tracks and wow them with your creativity. Infographics, for example, is one of the fastest growing content types today, so consider whether you could create one for your website pages. Showing rather than telling with infographics adds personality to your website and it can also have a bigger impact on visual learners.
