Writing is a tricky art form to master due to the fact that your productivity rests upon your inspiration and – being human – we cannot be inspired every minute of every day. Very often we experience what is known as writers block and we find ourselves staring at a blank page for hours with no idea where to begin.

Causes of writers block

  • Real life. These are external factors that pull you away from work mentally and sometimes physically as well. Examples are things like family and financial issues and these can take a toll on your copywriting productivity. It is important that you understand that it is ok to take a break. Step away, deal with the problem and you will probably return to work feeling refreshed and inspired.
  • Emotion. When it comes to writing, emotions are something you work with on a daily basis. We draw on our emotions for creativity and inspiration and so when your emotions do not coincide with what you are writing, productivity is likely to drop. Try taking a moment to deal with what is happening in your head- write a piece about what you are feeling. You may find that once you have poured it out, you will be able to get back to work.
  • The workload. Very often, the cause of the block does not lie with the writer, but in the writing itself. Perhaps the story is not on the right path or a character isn’t working. Whatever the reason, the key here is to be honest with yourself. Take a step back and review your work and – if necessary – start from scratch!

There is nothing wrong with you as a writer for feeling blocked and uninspired. Listen to yourself and decide what it is you need. When you are in a happy, peaceful state of mind, only then will you produce the best writing.
