Idea 1: Choose your images wisely
The images that you use on a site can make or break its’ overall appearance. This is why it is important for you as the web designer to guide your client. Remember that too many images will slow down how quickly the site will load and you want to avoid this mistake at all costs.
Idea 2: Keep your site easy to navigate
While you want to be creative with your design, you want to keep your site easy to navigate too. Even the best designs will be let down by complex navigation. Remember, this will only serve to confuse the end-user. As far as you can, keep the site easy to navigate without sacrificing creativity. If possilbe, get people with little or no technological background to test out the site and give you their opinions.
Idea 3: Your site tells a story
The website that you design is a sum of its’ parts – it works together to tell a story. This includes all the elements that make up the site: design, imagery, content, font choice, colour scheme etc. It is your job as the web designer to make sure that all of these elements work together. If they do not, you need to advise your clients to make simple changes in order for the site elements to work together harmoniously.
