A lot has happened in the last couple of years to bring interesting twists to the world of web design. The rising prominence of the mobile web has been a significant factor driving these changes but it is not the only development. Here is a profile of the most significant of these changes.

Along with increased Internet speeds has come along a number of designs that allow for fast-response user interface design. These interfaces are crafted to respond immediately to keyboard and mouse input and behave intuitively. Examples of these range from side fly-out menus to animated drop-down list boxes. A good designer also needs to put into consideration form input and data checking when designing user-interactive interfaces.

This is the era of the mobile web and touch screen devices. Increasingly, more people are accessing the web over smartphones as compared to traditional personal computers. As a web designer, you need to incorporate code that is responsive to touch input. You also need to put into consideration the needs of both Apple and Android operating system users.

To develop web applications and websites that are in touch with requirements of the modern user, you need to consider the evolution of HTML and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) standards. The most current deployment of these are HTML5 and CSS3. Fortunately, with an ever rising number of online tutorials, getting a good grip on these techniques is no longer the challenge it used to pose.

Another interesting development in the world of web design has been the launch of blogging platform themes. WordPress, by far the most widely used of these platforms has plenty of newly launched themes that automate a number of common tasks and give an amazing finish that will scarcely fail to please. If you are a developer with keen interest in WordPress, keep an eye for new themes that allow for custom post types and unique article images.
