Designing good websites can be very simple. With the amount of information, video tutorials and other web design tools available on the internet, website design isn’t restricted to experienced programmers anywhere. If you are new in the web design arena, don’t be intimated by all the acronyms and industry lingo – advanced skills such as Flash and CSS are frills and trills, which are not key elements in developing a basic, working website.

Source your own graphics

Strive as far as possible to use your own graphics and images. When you start studying other websites on the internet, you will quickly see that a lot of sites use the same images (this is especially obvious in pictures of people). With so much free software on the internet, creating your own graphics and design elements is a breeze. It also adds to the uniqueness of your site.

Use simple navigation rules

Plan your navigation carefully and be sure to not stray too far from established norms. Your user or visitor should be able to find his or her way around your site with relative ease, and little fuss. Basic tabs and pages such as home, about, services and contact are common elements and web users like this familiarity. Under construction sites are the biggest eyesores and perhaps its best to wait until your site is complete, instead of putting these up.

In general make your site strong in entertaining and relevant content. Taking extra care to maintain a clean, balanced and logical site design will make visiting your site a great experience for a user. Remember, a web user has a world of websites at his or her disposal – so give them every reason to continue to visit yours.
