These days there are so many free website design programs available online that they almost seem to negate the need for professional web design. This makes it oh so tempting, especially for owners of smaller business for whom it will be an out-of-pocket expense to try and go the ‘if they can do it, I can do it’ route. Don’t. It’s tempting, but don’t.

Firstly, with the inordinate amount of websites that are currently active, as a small business without an established market and with fewer resources, it is almost impossible to get noticed. Therefore you’ll need a professional web designer who knows all the ins-and-outs of web design to get your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) right. What this means is that, because most search engines use algorithms to determine a website’s ranking, there are certain criteria that have to be met in order for your page to rank well: Criteria which someone proficient in web design is well acquainted with.

Secondly, for you to gain any advantage and business from your online presence, you’ll have to really get your click-through rate up. A website’s click-through rate denotes the average time a viewer spends on a certain page. Obviously, the more time is spent, the more interested the viewer and the more likely it will lead to a sale. It therefore boils down to just plain common sense to get a team of professionals to do your web design and by doing so, ensure your website is easy to navigate as well as visually appealing. Lastly, even though it may sound like unnecessary extras, making sure your site is ‘social media optimised’ and has a unique ‘title tag’ makes all the difference in the world.

So, although you might be severely tempted not to, especially if you are a SME owner, it’s easy to see why investing in professional web design when creating your web page is crucial to your business’s success.
